A sky without lights
There is no light pollution in Redo. When night falls, the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye from the terrace itself, and the great events of the sky can be enjoyed as in few places in Spain. Add to that the festivals and traditions of the Liébana villages, which fill the valley all year round. Here is the calendar of what is coming.
Fiestas del Orujo · Potes
From 13 to 15 November. The great autumn festival of Liébana: steaming stills in the streets, a market, music and orujo distilled live.

Stargazing in the Picos de Europa
In Redo, 500 metres from Mogrovejo and in the heart of Liébana, there is barely any light pollution. When night falls, the Milky Way traces itself across the peaks and the sky fills with stars as in few places in Cantabria. That makes El Refugio de Redo a perfect base for stargazing: a country house from whose terrace you can watch the stars without taking the car or moving a metre from the fireplace.
Through the year, these dark skies offer a calendar full of dates: the Perseids in August, the Geminids in December — the most intense meteor shower of the year — or the historic total solar eclipse of 12 August 2026, which will be seen in full from the Picos de Europa. Stargazing also turns winter into high season for sky lovers, with especially clear nights over the snow.
An astrotourism break in Liébana is simple: days of walking and stone villages, and nights of blankets, a flask and eyes on the sky from the house itself. If you are looking for where to watch a meteor shower near the Picos de Europa, or a country house free of light pollution in Cantabria, this is your place.
