Redo is a tiny hamlet in the Camaleño valley, in Liébana, and its next-door neighbour is Mogrovejo, which in 2020 joined the list of the most beautiful villages in Spain. The house is in Redo, about 500 m from Mogrovejo, and from the terrace you can see the Picos de Europa. Here is what we like about the area and what we recommend to our guests.

Mogrovejo: stone, a tower and quiet streets

Mogrovejo is a village to wander through without hurrying. It keeps a medieval tower from the end of the 13th century, square and topped with battlements, a 17th-century parish church with a baroque altarpiece, and traditional Liébana houses of stone and timber. It has been a Site of Cultural Interest since 1985. If you come in August, arrive early: it is a small village and gets quite a few visitors.

The Bajo los Picos walk, from the front door

One of our favourite recommendations is the circular walk that leaves Mogrovejo, climbs towards Tanarrio and returns through Redo. The Central Massif of the Picos de Europa is in front of you the whole way and no mountaineering experience is needed. If you are staying at the house, the path goes through the hamlet and you can join it without the car. You will find the full description in our guide to the walk.

Local cheese and produce

In Mogrovejo you will find Quesos y Cosas, a shop specialising in local cheeses, ideal for picking up something for dinner at the house. It is one of the first stops we suggest to guests when they arrive. More ideas for eating and shopping on our food and drink page.

The views from the house

Sometimes the best plan is not to move at all. From the terrace you can see the Picos de Europa and, at sunset, you need nothing more: dinner outside, the fireplace later on and the mountains in front of you.
