Finding somewhere for eight people in the Picos de Europa is harder than it looks. The booking sites show you pretty photographs and a number of beds, but not the things that actually matter when you travel as a group: whether you all fit round the table for dinner, whether there are enough bathrooms, and where you put three cars.

This is what there is at El Refugio de Redo, without the gloss.

The whole house, just for you

It is not a room, and not a flat inside a shared building. The whole house is let: two floors, no neighbours inside and no timetables.

How many people really fit

4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, for 6 to 8 people. The difference between six and eight is not beds, it is elbow room: with six there is space to spare, with eight the house is full and still works well.

Two bathrooms for eight people is a reasonable ratio. It is exactly the point where many country houses fall short.

Being all together

A living room with a wood-burning fireplace, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen matters more than you would think when there are eight of you: eating out every day with a large group is expensive and means booking every night.

And there is a terrace with panoramic views of the Picos de Europa, which is where the group will end up every evening.

Who it works for

  • Two families with children travelling together.
  • A large family across three generations.
  • A group of friends who are out walking and want to come back to somewhere with a fireplace.
  • A small celebration without the noise of a hotel.

Where it is

In Redo, a tiny village in the Camaleño valley. 500 metres from Mogrovejo, 10 km from Potes and 25 minutes from the Fuente Dé cable car. The Bajo los Picos trail runs through the village.

It is genuinely quiet. If you are after nightlife, this is not the place; if you are after silence and a sky full of stars, it is.

Checking availability

Write to us through the contact page with your dates and how many of you there are, and we will let you know. If you are unsure whether the house suits you, ask with no obligation: we would rather tell you beforehand than afterwards.
